东平湖是接纳大汶河和处理黄河下游大洪水和特大洪水的滞洪水库。由于黄河河床淤积抬高,使东平湖老湖蓄洪后,北排入黄河日益困难,向南排又无配套工程,不能向南四湖排水,致使老湖滞洪能力逐渐降低,从而增加了运用东平湖新湖滞洪的机遇。使用新湖区滞洪一次,直接经济损失将达13亿元。为此通过分析研究,提出修建从东平湖老湖向南四湖排水工程是解决上述问题的有效途径。 Dongping Lake is a detention flood reservoir that houses Dawenhe River and deals with floods and extra-large floods in the lower Yellow River.
