The Asia-Europe summit held in London provided a public occasion for Europe’s significant change in its attitude towards China. The reasons for the change in European positions are not so much in China as it is in European countries because they believe that China is already a world economic power and will soon be integrated with the global economy. However, there is another reason why Europe has changed its attitude towards China. For more than eight months, East Asia has been hit by a severe regional financial crisis that was extremely rare after the Second World War. In comparison, China’s economic growth rate during the crisis is still around 8%, and China’s response to the crisis is very negative.
