The essence of poetry is to imitate the reality, but whether imitation can reflect the truth is still controversial. Plato thought that imitation was a thing, far from the truth of philosophy. Shelley, based on reality, regarded the true and the beauty of human beings as objects of imitation and expression of poetry. Plato also accused the poet of being the spokesman of God, the emotion of poetry above the rational; Shelley not only valued the inspiration, but also raised the status of the poet to the height of an unrecognized legislator. The two imitation theory aims at the controversy between reason and imagination. The contemporary controversy between science and poetry still remains for the reason that the poem is neglected, and inspires the creative concept and direction of poets, that is, writing poems not forget to imitate the reality and reflect the truth.
