Jane Rees, a West Indies woman writer, ruthlessly exposed and criticized the views of imperialism and colonialism in Jane Eyre from the perspective of a Creole in The Edge of the Sea and the Sea. Reese considers Jane’s Love’s story to be “the British side of the story,” in which she gives her great sympathy to the Creole living in the British colony. She is determined to write a true West Indies through the creation of “Algae.” Therefore, “Algae” is not only a true portrayal of the life course of Creole Woman, but also a 19th century colonial history of the West Indies. It is a strong argument by the author for a colonialist and patriarchal society
