The Composition Class
The students in the composition class were asked to write an article with the title “The most beautiful thing I ever saw”. The student, who of all the members of the class seemed the least feeling to beauty, handed in his paper first at astonishing speed. It was short and to the point. He had written, “The most beautiful thing I ever saw was too beautiful for words.”
I Am My Father
One day little Tom didn’t want to go to school, so he telephoned his teacher. He pretended to be his father and said. “Hello! Is that the teacher speaking? My little Tom is ill and can’t go to school today. He asked me to ask you for a day’s leave.”
The teacher at the other end of the telephone asked, “Who is that speaking?”
“It’s me, sir,” answered Tom, “I—I am my father.”
Half Dead
Sam can’t swim. A few days ago he fell into the river. He called for help. A young man jumped into the water and pulled him out.
“That young man saved your life,” said his wife. “Shouldn’t we give him a pound?”
“I was half dead when he pulled me out,” said Sam. “Give him 50 pence, dear.”
