Glycyrrhizin is the main component of licorice and is widely used in Japan for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. Regarding the effective mechanism of glycyrrhizin in the treatment of chronic hepatitis, it is believed that various immune activation actions of glycyrrhizin improve the liver function. However, from the perspective of the pathogenesis of chronic B type gingivitis, glycyrrhizin makes the host immune activation of HBV, it will enhance immune-induced liver cell damage, there will be a temporary increase in liver function damage. This is in line with the decrease in transaminases and the reduction in hepatocyte damage at the beginning of glycyrrhizin administration in patients with chronic hepatitis B.
