戏剧都应该是审美的。或者说,优秀的戏剧都具有审美功能。现在有同志专门提倡“审美戏剧”,我想其初衷无非是要特别强调一下戏剧的审美作用,希望提高戏剧艺术的审美素质。从戏剧发展的角度看,“审美戏剧”这一概念的提出,也许是对那种“非审美戏剧”的历史反拨。倘若在这样的意义上来确立“审美戏剧”的理论内涵与实践规范,自然有它的积极贡献。然而在探索的过程中,我们发现大家对“审美戏剧”的理解,距离相当之大。究其根本,就是如何看待“审美”,戏剧在什么尺度上才算进入了“美学的层次”。历史地来考察,导致戏剧审美素质普遍低下的原因,大抵是由于对文艺服从于政治作了过分急功 Drama should be aesthetic.
