Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and adverse reactions of azithromycin combined with cefprozil in the treatment of upper respiratory tract bacterial infections in infants and young children. Methods: From August 2013 to June 2014, 226 children with acute upper respiratory tract infection were treated in Changchun Children’s Hospital. Among them, there were 88 cases of cefprozil group, 60 cases of azithromycin group and combination therapy group 78 cases. Cefpirome, azithromycin and two drugs were used respectively. The curative effect and adverse reaction of the three groups were observed and statistically analyzed. Results: The total effective rate was 78.41% in cefprozil group, 76.67% in azithromycin group and 89.74% in combination group. There was no significant difference in the total effective rate between the two groups (P > 0.05). There was significant difference between the combined treatment group and the single treatment group (P <0.05). The total effective rate of the combined treatment group was higher than that of the single treatment group. The incidence of adverse reactions in cefprozil group was 7.95%, the incidence of adverse reactions in azithromycin group was 8.33%, the incidence of adverse reactions in combination group was 7.69%, and the incidence of adverse reactions in the three groups was not statistically significant (P> 0.05 ). Conclusion: The combination of cefprozil with azithromycin is superior to antibiotics alone in the treatment of upper respiratory tract bacterial infections in infants and young children. The combination of cefprozil and azithromycin did not increase adverse reactions and safety was better.
