作为享誉世界的著名经济学家,科斯不仅以其在新制度经济学、产权经济学、法与经济学等领域内所做的杰出贡献问鼎1991年诺贝尔经济学奖,而且长期关注中国的发展进程,除慷慨出资组织国际学术会议之外,更在其助手王宁协助下对中国自1949年以来,特别是1978年改革开放后的经济转轨和社会跃迁做了大量精细入微研究,其具体成果即是《变革中国:市场经济的中国之路》一书——凝聚科斯晚年学术精义的集大成之作。科斯在书中理性、平实且不无欣赏地观照中国这60多年来所走过的路,可贵之处在于该书以历史主义视角为基础,辅之产权、契约、交易成本等新制度经济学几大关键概念作为分析工具和概念框架,针对中国市场经济改革提出一整套合理化解释。
