The theory of dependency is a theory of underdevelopment: poor countries are marginalized from the world economy and can not develop as long as they remain enslaved by developed countries in economic centers. Dependency Theory is also the cornerstone of the world view of Latin American left-wing elements that made up the 1960s and 1970s, including leaders such as Chilean President Allende Allende and the Sandianistas Group of Nicaragua. As is often the case with accepted ill-informed foreign theories (the most typical example being deconstructionism), students at American universities accept dependency theory with religious zeal, and dependency theory combines the Vietnam War era
