蜗壳是水轮机上尺寸最大的一个重要部件,也是决定水轮机单机出力的一个重要因素,其重量约占水轮机总重的1/6。随着我国水轮发电机组单机容量不断增长,对蜗壳材料的技术要求越来越高,传统使用的A_3钢板已远不能满足要求。在毛主席独立自主、自力更生精神的鼓舞下,我国从1963年开始在大中型蜗壳材料方面试验和采用了屈服强度为30~50公斤/毫米~2级的国产低合金高强度钢板。十几年来生产实践表明,采用低合金高强度钢来代替和补充传统的碳素结构钢,不仅满足了电机容量不断发展的需要,而且节约了大量钢材、降低了电站造价、减少了焊接工作量、缩短了安装时间、加速了社会主义建设。因此它具有重大的政治和经济意义。
