First, auxin herbicides at the ICI Research Station in Jealotts Hiss NAA solution sprayed oat crops for the study of the effect of auxin on soil organic matter. This experiment found that oat plants were unharmed and mustard seedlings were killed. The results of this experiment led to the development of chemically synthesized auxin as a selective herbicide for controlling broad-leaved weeds in the field of cereal crops. Not only do they inhibit the growth of auxin-sensitive roots, they can mess up the processes of tissue differentiation, division and elongation, causing extreme deformities in sensitive plants.
