Pesticide production in the United States accounts for about one-half of the world’s total. The highest annual output reached 730,000 tons (1975), an increase of 40 times over the past 30 years (since 1945). More than 60% of the pesticides in the United States are sprayed on aircraft, resulting in the expansion of the scope of pollution (water, air, soil and other environments), posing a serious social problem.
