Bipolaroxin, a toxin isolated from Bipolaris cynodontis, a fungal pathogen that invades the common weed bermudagrass, has been studied by several researchers at Montana State University and Cornell University in recent years. This mycotoxin, composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, is easily broken down by soil microorganisms. Its discovery provides a basis for the production of new herbicides that can specifically poison certain weeds without leaving any residue. For this reason, they are looking further for mycotoxins that are toxic to other weeds. According to scientists, similar pathogens are likely to be found in the origin of these weeds, as pathogens in these areas have long been targeted to certain hosts.
