OBJECTIVE : To compare the preoperative 1 8F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) intake obtained from PET imaging with histological and immunohistochemical analysis of breast cancer in order to determine which tumor characteristics influence the uptake of tracer. METHODS: Women who had abnormal radiography of the mammary glands or breast masses for surgical treatment were selected. They were fasted for at least 4 hours before PET imaging and intravenously injected with 1 8F-FDG2 40 to 40 0 MBq.
