The focus of contemporary Australian writer Caldwell is on the issue of slavery in modern society. His collection of novels, The Rebellion in the Coat of Arms, is a possible beneficial attempt by the author to explore the free subject with the psychic in order to get out of the transparent prisonerism. This, to some extent, is consistent with Foucault’s view on prison society, madness and subject. In order to oppose the standardization of society, the author proposes that mania is another form of thinking, and reflection on reason is a necessary way for the subject of spontaneous subordination to obtain freedom. In the end, the author points out that human freedom is contained in self-reflection, and people should learn to face real self.
