The first 5MW low-temperature nuclear heat test reactor designed, researched and constructed by the Institute of Nuclear Energy Technology of Tsinghua University successfully completed the 72-hour full-power continuous operation test on December 19, 1989. This is a breakthrough that our country has made in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. The construction of 5MW low-temperature nuclear heating reactor is a key scientific and technological project of the national “Seventh Five-Year Plan” - an important part of the development of low-temperature nuclear heating reactor technology. The reactor started its engineering design in 1985 and was officially started construction at the Institute of Nuclear Energy of Tsinghua University in March 1986. The reactor and system installation was completed in May 1989 and the cold and heat tests were successfully completed in September.
