Basic Concepts of “Middle Income Trap” In 2006, the World Bank proposed the concept of “Middle IncomeTrap” in the East Asian Economic Development Report (2006). The so-called “middle-income trap” refers to a state where the per capita income of a country reaches a middle level, which can not be achieved due to the failure to smoothly realize the transformation of the mode of economic development and the lack of motivation for economic growth. In other words, many developing countries, while moving from medium-income to high-income, can not repeat and find it hard to get rid of their previous mode of development from low-income access to medium-income development. Their own contradictions in economic development can not be overcome.
