This poem comes from the “Holy Sonnet” written by the great 17th-century English poet John Dunn (1572-1631). John Dunn is a metaphysical representative of the poet, whose poems usually give the impression of a stage drama. Most of the opening poems appear in the form of popular or intensely dramatic dramatic dialogues or arguments, rendering the stage atmosphere of the drama and creating dramatic suspense among the readers, thus promoting the sublimation of the theme of poetry. The poet is original in his poetic skill in using dramatic expression techniques. By using a series of parables that emphasize intelligence, gorgeous images and contrasting dramatic elements, the poet integrates passion and reasoning, injects new vitality into his poems and communicates them to the readers Wonderful artistic effect.
