In Jia Pingwa’s literary creation, Zen and Metaphysics brought him the most profound impact. Zen is the intuitive wisdom that can bring the whole body to the world without losing its humorous appeal. Metaphysics is an individuality that transcends earthly and naturalized things, but the ultimate pursuit of infinity is the same. Therefore, although Zen and metaphysics are different in content, Zen demanded compassion for the beings. Purdue sentient beings and metaphysics demanded that they should behave in a man-made way based on the unique Chinese aesthetic principle, emphasizing the real-life life. In Jia Pingwa’s essay, the fusion of these two kinds of wisdom is revealed all the time. From his essays, we see the perfect combination of poetic wisdom and the quiet heart. The influence of Zen and Metaphysics on Jia Pingwa has been sublimated from the surface to the inner manifestation. From his essays, it can be readily tasted.
