Based on the pricing theory of monopoly firms, this paper analyzes the pricing mechanism of long-term iron ore international agreement and how this mechanism affects the raw material costs of China’s steel industry. The conclusions drawn from the analysis are quite different from the market’s understanding of this issue. According to the article, it is the current iron ore pricing mechanism that protects Chinese steel companies. When iron ore demand soars, The pattern of ore supply suffered price discrimination. However, when the market demand has shrunk dramatically, as the largest iron ore purchasing country in the world, China needs to improve its existing pricing mechanism and set China’s price independent of the world.
