Zhao Zongxi (1904-1989) was a native of Rongchang County, Sichuan Province. Before his death, he was chief engineer of the Research Institute of Petrochemical Sciences, concurrently a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a senior adviser to the National Energy Commission, a deputy leader of the State Council Leading Group for Environmental Protection, a technical and economic consultant of the China National Petrochemical Corporation, a member of the China Petroleum Institute, and a Chinese chemical Director of the Society, executive director of the China Coal Society, senior advisor to the China Energy Research Association, consultant to the China Environmental Society, and director of the Beijing Energy Society.
