《纽约时报书评》与《纽约书评》,反映了美国书评的两种倾向。前者的“大众化”与后者的“精英化”,都值得在市场转型过程中的中国媒体认真借鉴。“严肃和有趣”,或许可以成为一种对书评的评价标准。大众化的书评,因其受众广、影响大,绝对是不可忽视的一块阵地,容专文论述;这里且谈作为“阳春白雪”的精英化书评。所谓“高山流水,知音者少”,思想性过于高深,很可能出现“曲高和寡”的结果,但若能兼及美文与趣味,则未必不可将书斋里的高深思考,转化为大众平民喜闻乐见的文章。所谓“文章者,经国之盛事也”,文字力量建基于其对普通民众的巨大号召力。
The New York Times Book Review and the New York Book Review reflect both tendencies in American book reviews. The former’s “popularization” and the latter’s “elitism” all should be conscientiously borrowed from the Chinese media in the process of market transformation. “Serious and interesting,” may be able to become a standard book evaluation. Popular Book Review, because of its wide audience, the impact of large, is absolutely a position that can not be ignored, monographs; here and talk about as the “Spring Snow” elite book reviews. The so-called “high mountains and rivers with a low companion” are too thoughtful and may have the result of “highbrowness.” However, if they can combine both the beauty and the taste, they may not necessarily translate the profound thinking in the study into an article that is loved by the common people. The so-called “article by the event of the country also”, literary power built on its huge appeal to ordinary people.
