La Ni5 alloy is recognized as excellent performance at room temperature hydrogen storage materials. Unlike other rare earth transition metal intermetallics, phase-laden La Ni5 alloys are difficult to prepare by reduction-diffusion due to the different diffusion mechanisms. The reaction time, the reaction temperature and the size of the nickel powder used determine the purity of the final LaNi5 alloy. Preparation of pure phase, particle size control La Ni5
