The U.S. Senate passed a harsh bill restricting the import of textiles and garments on November 13. This bill, along with the same bill passed by the House of Representatives on October 10th, will seriously damage the export interests of developing countries. The two houses of the U.S. Congress, in the name of protecting the textile industry of the United States, attempted to unilaterally abandon the international obligations of the U.S. within the framework of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, and ignored the bilateral textile trade agreements concluded between the U.S. and more than 30 trading partners. We will reduce or freeze textile import quotas.
