The translation and introduction of New Zealand literature in China began in 1923 with the publication of Xu Zhimo’s “Mans Man Fei Fei”. Following Xu Zhimo, Chen Xiying, Shen Yanbing, Ling Shuhua and others also translated or Mansfield’s short stories or wrote articles in the press to comment on them, thus setting off an upsurge in the translation of Mansfield and New Zealand literature. As a whole, the translation and introduction of New Zealand literature in China prior to the founding of New China mainly focused on Mansfield one person, emphasizing the writer’s British identity and highlighting her achievements in short story creation. Xu Zhimo and other important writers played a leading role, and some newspapers and publishers promoted the dissemination of these translation results. Despite its shortcomings, the translation of New Zealand literature into our country prior to the founding of new China constituted an indispensable part of the history of translation and study of Chinese New Zealand literature. A number of Chinese writers, including Xu Zhimo and Ling Shuahua, A certain impact, but also for our later translation of New Zealand literature and acceptance of the preparatory work done.
