This paper deals with the characteristics of strong earthquakes in the North-South seismic belt. Themigration and jumping response of earthquake of M≥7 in time and space are very marked. The rela-tionship between earthquakes of different magnitudes and tectonic types is also discussed. Earthquakes ofM ≥7.5 occurred and migrated along plate boundaries, those of M≥7 jumped over block boundaries.Earthquakes of M_s=6-7 are controlled by faults whilst minor shocks are highly randomly distributed.
