由个体家庭结合而成的家族制度,自原始社会末期产生,到本世纪中叶消灭,在我国存在了近五千年。这样一个关系到千家万户、作用于民间日常生活到国家政体各个方面的重要制度,无疑是社会科学研究中的重要课题。为便于研究的深入进行,兹将本世纪以来有关中国家族制度史的论著作一简要介绍。一、解放前的研究我国古代文人学者虽然注意到了家族制度问题,但都是记述而谈不上研究,真正意义上的家族制度研究是从本世纪初开始的。本世纪二十年代到四十年代中叶,不少论著运用社会学的理论和方法,系统地研究了先秦秦汉时期的宗法制度,有的还研究了秦汉以后各个历史 The family system, which is a combination of individual families, has emerged from the end of primitive society and eliminated by the middle of this century.
