Cultural teaching is as important as language teaching, a view that has been endorsed by most scholars (eg Byram etal and Kramsch) and English teachers. Conducting cultural teaching related to English content in the classroom helps students to fully understand Anglo-American culture and improve their communicative competence. However, the existing literature shows that most of the studies on cultural teaching mainly focus on university and middle school English learners, and rarely involve the special learning groups of students in higher vocational schools. It is even more revealing that the status quo of conducting cultural teaching in this group is even more not enough. In view of this, this study takes two classes of students majoring in vocational education as the research object, using the questionnaire as the research tool to reveal the status quo of the teaching of English in vocational colleges. Through the data collection and analysis, the following main findings were obtained: The questionnaire results show that the cultural teaching in higher vocational English teaching is not carried out satisfactorily. Although most of the students in higher vocational colleges are very interested in Anglo-American culture and are eager to learn a lot of cultural knowledge from their teachers, English teachers seldom involve cultural knowledge in class. Even if they explain cultural knowledge, they have a very simple way. Students rely too much on teachers. After class, they spend less time independently studying Anglo-American cultural knowledge and learning styles are simple. The results of this study have some enlightenment on how to teach and study English teaching in vocational colleges.
