Recently Prof. Alberto C. Riccardi, President of the International Union of Geological Sciences （lUGS）, .signed a ratification to recognize a stratotype section located at the Duibian Village in Jiangshan County in east China＇s Zhejiang Province as a Global Standard Stratotype- Section and Point （GSSP）. This move formally made the section a worldwide reference for the base of the Jiangshanian Stage, the ninth stage of the Cambrian System on the geological time scale.
