自1983年以来,引进区外和国外115个大麦品种进行试种鉴定,筛选出高产优质的啤酒大麦品种——沪麦4号。四年的试种表明,该品种在我区不同自然生态条件下,亩产可达200～270公斤,同时具有较强的抗倒性和抗逆性,其品质完全符合酿制啤酒的要求。沪麦4号的生育期随纬度的降低而缩短,但所需的积温则基本处于一个稳定值,即1760℃左右。播种期和产量的关系有一个明显的转折点,11月25日以后播种,产量明显下降。适宜的群体结构基本苗为10—15万/亩左右,有效穗在33万/亩左右产量最高。

The appropriate population structure of basic seedlings is about 10-15 million / acre, the effective ear in 330,000 / acre about the highest yield.
