After the global financial crisis in 2008, a series of fiscal stimulus plans in various countries in the world revived people’s concern about the theory of government expenditure. In this paper, we summarize the latest research achievements of western academia on the mutual influence of government expenditure and economic growth from the perspective of government expenditure multiplier effect. Generally speaking, the literature on government expenditure in the post-crisis era is more concerned with the factors that influence the government expenditure multiplier and the micro-transmission mechanism of the macroeconomic effect of government expenditure. At the same time, people also expand their understanding of the role of government expenditure in different economic cycles, The implementation of specific fiscal policy provides theoretical support, with strong practical significance.
