文人画始于北宋,至元而兴。文人画表现对象一般较简单,技法用笔的熟练使士大夫画家常常追求形式上的趣味。由于士大夫的审美观点与画院、民间画有着极大的分歧,所以文人画在北宋兴起时,立即得到士大夫阶层的竭力推崇。到了元代以‘元四家’—黄公望、王蒙、倪瓒、吴镇为代表,他们把宋代的文人画推向了新的高峰。
Literati painting began in the Northern Song Dynasty, Yuan and Xing. Literati paintings are generally simple objects, skilled brushstrokes make the doctor often painter often pursue the form of fun. Due to the great aesthetic disagreement between the doctor and the painters and the folk paintings, the literati painting was immediately respected by the literati class when it rose in the Northern Song Dynasty. In the Yuan Dynasty, they were represented by ’Yuan 4’ - Huang Gongwang, Wang Meng, Ni Zan and Wu Zhen, who pushed the literati paintings of the Song Dynasty to new heights.
