General Electric Company of the United States awarded TRW a $ 21 million contract to develop a land-satellite-D broadband communications system. In addition, TRW’s Defense and Space Systems Division will provide the main image processing software for the new Landsat-D ground station. Landsat-D will feature two remote sensors, a multispectral scanner and a theme mapper, of which the subject will have a resolution of up to 30 meters. Data from Landsat-D make a greater contribution to areas such as forecasting crop yields, evaluating plant growth, managing forests, grasslands and water resources, mapping land use maps and prospecting.
