Locating each core of a memory up to 640.000 (14 mil outer diameter, 9 mil inner diameter) ferrite cores in a precise template is the first step in computer memory assembly. This in itself is a difficult task. However, maintaining the core positioning in continuous operation is also a real problem. Massachusetts-based Nat Natick Digital Equipment Corp., a maker of small computers, has proposed ways to assemble magnetic core memory from pressure-sensitive tapes and wafers until it can be snapped from readout and drive wires. The focus of these approaches is to address the labor in the storage matrix from positioning the core to the final assembly
