The optical coupling theory between semiconductor laser (SLD) and single-mode fiber (SMF) is described from the half-width matching of mode field under the assumption of Gaussian field distribution. The different modes of SLD-SMF optical coupling are analyzed, and the optimization rate of several coupling modes suitable for practical engineering is given from the dual perspective of coupling efficiency and cost
