明清时期,松江府所辖的上海地区市镇快速兴起和发展,市镇信仰成为推动市镇空间发展的重要文化因素。文章对明清时期上海地区市镇信仰形态与空间、本土信仰活动对市镇格局的发展,以及外来宗教对市镇空间的影响进行了实证研究,揭示了本土信仰在明清传统市镇中有其独特的"文化号召力",它在与经济、社会等诸多因素的互动中,不仅促进了市镇的形成与空间完善,而且自身的信仰体系也朝着日益世俗化、商业化发展。于此同时,伴随着西方各种宗教的传入以及全国各地人口流入所带来的丰富的信仰文化,上海地区的信仰类型日益多元化,为近代上海五方杂处、高度异质性的"海派宗教文化"的发展奠定了基础。
