It is well-known that there is a highly negative correlation between protein and oil content, as is the relationship between the same-seed protein content and yield. Such a negative combination hinders the recombination of useful components, but in fact can provide this opportunity to combine. At Winnipeg, we have chosen oil and protein content for more than a decade. At 1976, in seventeen points in western Canada, trials including the “Tolle” bred through this program and the “Midas” which had a major oil-content selection were conducted. The data from these experiments (Table 1) indicate that the sum of “Tor” oil and protein is 2.4% higher than that of “Micheal”, so that the two most valuable components of a seed are oil and protein, selected The result increased, leading to an increase in the actual value of the seed.
