攀西地区是中国最重要的钒钛磁铁矿产出区之一(从柏林等,1988),在峨眉山大火成岩省中部分布有攀枝花、红格、白马及太和四大代表性的层状侵入体,均产出有超大型的钒钛磁铁矿矿床。巨厚的钛铁氧化物矿层主要出现在攀枝花、白马、太和岩体的下部带及红格岩体的中部带,然而攀西层状岩体内钒钛磁铁矿矿床的产出位置不同于国外一些典型大型层状岩体,如Bushveld岩体磁铁矿层产出在岩体的上部层位 The Panxi area is one of the most important vanadium-titanium magnetite outflow areas in China (from Berlin et al., 1988).
