In “The Wealth of Nations,” Adam Smith put forward a famous paradox: diamonds are expensive, but their use value is very small; water is cheap and their use value is great. Indeed, what is the use of diamonds in us? Neither can we eat nor wear, and even if there is no such thing as diamond in the world, our life will not be fundamentally different. Water is not the same, leaving the water, all living things (of course, including humans) can not survive. However, from the daily observation, the price of diamonds is much higher than that of water. Thus, at first glance, the paradox of value of diamonds and water appears intuitively to exist.
