当前历史专题片在荧屏上的繁荣,是中国人对历史迷恋的情结在传媒时代的延续。以往的数千年里,在历史的记述上享有绝对霸权的是文字,而在历史专题片中,影像扮演了前所未有的重要角色。比起文字来,影像传达出的讯息形象而直观,它可以把抽象的、说理性的文字内容转化为视觉的直观,同时文字又可以引发人头脑中对影像的想象和渴望。在历史专题片中两种语言构成互文关系,相互糅合、弥补,对历史展开描绘。
