The last few paragraphs of Marx’s “Introduction to Critique of Political Economy” made a classic comment on Greek art. Although Marx’s comment was only to show that the ups and downs of art are not synchronized with the social stage, The reason for this is the uniqueness of art itself, but much more can be tapped. What Marx most wants to tell us is that as small as everyone’s childhood, as great as the childhood stage of human development as a whole, are the most beautiful because of the real, because of purity, because of nature. The ancient Greeks and their art, because of the time never cease, remain in that ancient past forever because they are no longer regenerated and become eternal classic.
