Objective: To investigate the effect of psychological stressors on the activity of Na +, K + - ATPase in brain tissue and its mechanism, and the protective effect of free radical scavenger on the activity of Na +, K + - ATPase. Methods: The rats were divided into control group, restraint group and treatment group. The activity of Na +, K + - ATPase in the brain tissue was determined by image analysis and the content of MDA was measured by TAB method. Results: The activities of Na +, K + - ATPase in shackles group and treatment group were significantly lower than those in control group, while the content of MDA in shackle group and treatment group was significantly higher than those in control group. The activities of Na +, K + - ATPase in treatment group were significantly higher than those in shackles group Group. The contents of MDA and the activities of Na +, K + - ATPase in the binding group and the treatment group showed a linear negative correlation. CONCLUSION: The prolonged restraint stress can decrease the activity of Na +, K + - ATPase in rat brain. The decrease of the activity is related to the damage of oxygen free radicals. The treatment with SOD + CAT has certain protective effect on the activity
