Fang Fang, the father of Fang Hongqiu, the protagonist of “The Besieged City”, was a slutty fellow. When his son was away, he had many parting words to tell his son to remember. It sounded good in pairs. What “clench on teeth” stood firm? “Heel”, “can be homesick for a long time, not a day to love home” and so on. Fang Hung-chien knew that these words were said to himself, but Mr. Fang Lao was mainly recorded in the diaries and memoirs, letting the world know how his old gentleman taught his children well. Mr. Fang Lao was idle and suddenly found himself. This mental self-pity helped him write his autobiography, write a diary, and people who studied psychology saw him as a “Chinese language madness.”
