Objective: To study the role of CD5 + B cells in the pathogenesis of myasthenia gravis (MG). Methods: The percentage of CD5 + B cells (CD5 + CD19 +) in peripheral blood of 39 patients with MG and 18 healthy controls were measured by immunofluorescence double labeling and flow cytometry. Serum AChRab was detected by ELISA indirect ELISA. Results: The percentage of CD5 + B cells in peripheral blood of patients with MG was significantly higher than that in control group, and CD5 + B cells were significantly higher in AChRab-positive and -negative MG serums than in control group; however, there was no significant difference in the percentage of CD5 + B cells between AChRab positive and negative MG patients Sex differences found. Conclusion: CD5 + B cells are associated with the pathogenesis of MG but not with AChRab.
