Archaeological discoveries over the past decade or so have revealed that there are at least about 100,000 pieces of ancient rock paintings in China that can be divided into several regions or systems. Among them, humanoid petroglyphs are the most profound systems of connotation. They are distributed in the belt-shaped area of 4,000 km along the northern and eastern coasts of China and constitute one aspect of the source of ancient Chinese culture.
