Norman Mailer, a famous American writer, art critic and Picasso research expert; twice won the Pulitzer Prize. In 1995 he published the monograph “Picasso’s Youth”, which took 35 years to complete. The book focuses on Picasso from childhood painting talent to represent its art breakthrough “Ya Weinong girls” until it is found and inspire a rare study of important period. In an interview with Pete Hill, a veteran U.S. correspondent, Mailer interviewed some of the most outstanding artists, abstract expressions, art criticism and installation art of the 20th century. This book has been brewing for a long time. Or in 1959 Mailer published an essay on Picasso “advertising for myself.” Published in 1993, Arianna, Stasnowoprose, and Hoffman’s Biography of Picasso gave Mailer no small boost and finally inspired the writing of this book. He also consulted with several other Picasso research materials, as well as a note he personally made more than 30 years ago. In the book, Mailer portrays Picasso as a painter and Picasso as a man, and portrays famous figures of Picasso age such as John, Kennedy, Malinling, Monroe, Gary and Gilmore. As an artist, Meiler’s sentiment toward dialogue-based historical biographies is almost sentimental: “The purpose of creation is not to reproduce Picasso’s experience, but to approach him as much as possible.”
