WHO Report of 1997 In 1995, there were 125 million diabetic patients in the world and it is estimated to reach 350 million by 2030. The newly increased patients are mainly concentrated in developing countries such as China. Diabetes mellitus is a common endocrine and metabolic disease caused by a series of metabolic disorders such as sugar, protein, fat, water and electrolyte caused by the combination of genetic and environmental factors in the body leading to the decline of islet function. In addition to the small number of diabetes due to mutations in the insulin receptor gene, most of the type I diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, NIDDM) and type II diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus , NIDDM) is a multi-gene and environmental factors together and interact
