Since ancient times, animals have been closely linked with the production and life of mankind. They are not only human partners, but also witness the progress of human civilization. Different ethnic groups often give the animals different symbolic meanings and cultural connotations. Therefore, animal-related idioms have different metaphorical meanings in different cultural backgrounds. By comparing the similarities and differences between animal metaphors “Sheep ” in English and Chinese, the article attempts to reveal the cultural differences inherent in animal metaphors in different linguistic environments to promote intercultural communication.
