The anti-corruption storm of China Central Television (henceforth referred to as CCTV) is in progress. On July 30, Liu Wen, director of CCTV Documentary Channel (CCTV9), was taken away by prosecutors, following the steps of Guo Zhenxi and Rui Chenggang, two of his colleagues from CCTV Finance Channel (CCTV2).
Liu Wen was born in Wuhu City, Anhui Province and currently serves as the senior editor and chief director of CCTV9. He was admitted into the Television Department of Communication University of China in 1984 and started to teach there after the graduation in 1988. In 1991 he was transferred to CCTV and served successively as the editor, photographer, producer and department chief.
CCTV9 was founded in January 2011. It is featured with various kinds of documentaries and covers more than 900 million domestic audience. As the first Channel director, Liu Wen is the creator of several popular programs and the chief producer of “A Bite of China”, a phenomenally successful documentary of CCTV.
According to informant, Liu Wen was found suspicious during a routine audit starting last December. The National Audit Office found that he was involved in several alleged financial misdeeds during documentary purchasing and producing.
